The saga of BJP’s ever-growing internal problems literally turned into a sob story with beleaguered Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa publicly shedding tears that explained his predicament in the face of the danger to his chair posed by the powerful ‘Billary brothers’, the two ministers in his Cabinet.

As he unfolded his teary story in an interaction with a Kannada channel Suvarna, the RSS further turned up the heat for the retirement of LK Advani from active politics by setting a fresh timeframe for his exit. Amidst his preoccupation with resolving the Karnataka tangle, Advani got another notice from the RSS to quit after “overseeing” the election of new BJP president in December.

“Advani will quit politics. He will step down after the election of a new president,” RSS spokesman Ram Madhav said. His statement came amidst reports that the veteran leader would call it quits on his birthday on Sunday.

With tears rolling down his cheeks Yeddyurappa hit out at the dissidents for shifting focus from the relief work in the flood-hit areas of the state by raising a banner of revolt. “I apologise to the flood victims. When they are facing  so many problems, we shouldn’t have wasted time on this,” he said.

The reason behind Yeddyurappa turning emotional apparently lay in the dissidents G Janardhan Reddy and G Karunakara Reddy rejecting the compromise formula after the chief minister announced it. His claim that “everything has been resolved”, was rubbished by the Reddy brothers who denied reports of a rapproachment with Yeddyurappa.

In an ostensible reference to the dissidents, he rued that even his trusted people did not support him. “I should not have been distracted,” he said.  Pressure showed on him when he admitted that he was forced to accept demands of the dissidents particularly the removal of his trusted ones from their present positions.

“For my selfish ends I was forced to ditch my trusted people. Be it the transfer of my principal secretary VP Baligar, or the likely dropping of Shoba Krandlaje,” he said. Even God won’t forgive me for this,” he said.
