Wrong day to meet accused, but cops relent

The jail officials refused the relatives who came here on Tuesday to meet their kin as such meetings could take place only on Friday and Saturday as per the jail rules.

They came all the way from Karnataka to meet their kin lodged in the Sabarmati Jail. But they landed in Ahmedabad on the wrong day and hence had to plead with jail officials and IGP to get them an audience with their loved ones.

The jail officials refused the relatives who came here on Tuesday to meet their kin as such meetings could take place only on Friday and Saturday as per the jail rules. Later the jail officials relented. A group of nine people including five women came to the city to meet the prisoners who were brought by city police from different jails of Karnataka for their alleged role in the Ahmedabad serial blasts.

Faheemumissa Saiyed, mother of Nadeem Saiyed, who is in lodged in the Sabarmati Central Jail for the last three months after he was brought from Belgam jail on transfer warrant said, “My son has been falsely implicated in the case.”

“Before the Ahmedabad blasts he was lodged in Belgam jail.” Nadeem, the only son of his mother and a final year BBA student, was arrested from his house at Belgam on June 25,2008 for being an alleged SIMI operative. 

The prisoners who were brought from Karnataka include Asadullah Abu Bakar, a resident of Bellary, Nadeem Saiyed, a resident of Belgam, Sakeel Mali from Dharwad, Yashin Hameed from Gulbarga and Naseer Patel from Belgam.
