Woman lodges dowry case against NRI hubby, in-laws

A woman, alleging that she was harassed for dowry, lodged a police complaint against her husband and in-laws. The victim, Shivani Trivedi, 24, is married to one Deep Trivedi, an NRI presently residing at Surel apartments in Vastrapur, for the past two years.  

According to case details, the duo got married in April 2007. Soon after their wedding Deep got a job in Muscat, so the two migrated there in August. However, after a few months, Deep's parents also moved to Muscat and started torturing Shivani physically and mentally for dowry.

Shivani came to India on September 20, to celebrate Diwali, but nothing had changed since she last met her in-laws. The situation only got worse . Shivani told her husband about the trauma she was going through, but all that Deep had to say to her miseries was that he could find many other better girls for himself. Shivani then moved to her house in Vitthal colony in Naranpura.

Later, Shivani's parents also visited the Trivedi household in order to talk to Deep's parents and settle the issue, but in vain.Vastrapur PSI BR Gameti said that Deep is still in Muscat and that his parents are not available.
