Wheat buying reaches 83.29 lakh tonne in Punjab

With wheat arrival picking up, crop procurement has touched the mark of 83.29 lakh tonne in the ongoing rabi marketing season, which is 13% lower than procurement made in last year.
   
Government agencies and private millers procured 83.29 lakh tonnes of wheat so far against lifting of 97.12 lakh tonnes in corresponding period of last year.
       
Out of total procurement, lifting agencies bought 83.15 lakh tonne, which is 99.08% of total lifting procurement.
   
Private traders lifted jus 14,416 tonne of wheat. FCI had been able to procure 11.89 lakh tonne of wheat which was the 14.3% of the total procurement of wheat in the state.
       
The spokesperson said Ferozepur with 9.44 lakh tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas district Sangrur was at second slot with lifting of 9.07 lakh tonne of crop.
