Kankaria zoo has got some new residents.

A pair of tigers and three deer have found home in the zoo. The animals were brought here last week on Friday from the Mysore zoo.

"Separate enclosures have been provided for the new residents. The tigers are six and seven years old, while the deer are in the age group of five to ten," said Kamala Nehru Zoo superintendent RK Sahu. Two-three acres of land and separate enclosures have been provided for the new comers.

"They are being given special care and we have trained people to look after them," Sahu said. Earlier the zoo had brought two tigers Pratap and Ananya from the Mysore Zoo.

The Kankaria Zoo is also looking for a pair of giraffes to add to its collection, said zoo authorities.

"We will be getting a pair of giraffes in the next four to five months. But we are yet to identify the seller," Sahu said. "Initially we were planning to bring the giraffes from the United States, Germany or some African country. But the authorities over there did not give us any clearances. So, last year, we approached the central zoo authority, Delhi for procuring a pair of giraffes."

He said that to get the animals, the zoo will need to get a 'no objection certificate' from the ministry of commerce and ministry of environment and forest.  "We will fulfill all the required parameters to get the nod," said Sahu.
