Tight security in Hyderabad for tomorrow's Telangana rally

Police have made unprecedented security arrangements in the city in view of the tomorrow's rally by the TRS and pro-Telangana students to press for their demand for statehood to Telangana region.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of student unions had planned a march to the Assembly (Chalo Assembly), but later it christened the programme as "peace rally".

The state legislature is currently in session.

The state capital has turned into a fortress with the deployment of over 12,500 armed policemen and paramilitary forces, including Rapid Action Force (RAF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, to maintain law and order, police sources said.

Police have imposed restrictions on vehicular traffic at 22 important places. Also, traffic is not being allowed on five flyovers.

The Khairtabad, Narayanguda, Basheerbagh, Telugu Talli and Masab Tank flyovers would be closed for traffic from tonight to tomorrow evening, additional commissioner of police (traffic) Hanumantha Rao said.

Pedestrians will also not be allowed to move on the elevated bridges, he said.
