Chief minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that Gujarat was poised to touch newer heights of development in the coming years, and lauded the government machinery for the hard work during the Swarnim Gujarat year.

Speaking before the cultural programme organised to mark the end of Swarnim Gujarat celebrations, Modi said "The Golden Jubilee year of Gujarat became a festival for Gujaratis living all over the world. We have shown what 12 crore hands and 6 crore dreams of Gujaratis are capable of achieving. We now need to strive to take Gujarat to new heights."

The chief minister said that 5.50 lakh government employees had worked day in and day out to achieve the impossible in one year. "We could do ten years’ work in a single year because of the hard work of government employees. The year has boosted my confidence, and I can say that the Swarnim Year will prove to be the foundation of Gujarat's golden age," he said, adding that other governments had become jealous of Gujarat because of its unprecedented achievements.

The event was slated to start at 6 pm, but it only began an hour late after Governor Dr Kamla and the CM arrived. Also present at the function were BJP leaders Arun Jaitley, Balbir Punj, Nirmala Sitaramaiya, ministers, MPs and MLAs, among others.
Earlier, the Governor unveiled a book about 50 Golden Moments of Gujarat. The CM launched the collection of three books containing the traditional budget session addresses of all state governors since 1961. Modi said that the development taking place in the state was not because of him or the current government, but due to all previous governments and chief ministers of the state.

Attacking those engaged in defaming Gujarat, Modi said, "The PM himself said last week that Muslims in West Bengal had no jobs, but their condition in Gujarat was better. It doesn't matter whether Gujarat gets any certificate or not. Truth always prevails." In her address, governor Dr Kamla  congratulated everyone who had contributed to the state's development.
