Surat hot after sparse rain

 Saturday proved to be a hot day for Surtis because of scanty rainfall. Surat received sparse rain in the early hours of Saturday morning, but the afternoon was dry. The city awaited some relief in the evening, but it had to endure hot and humid conditions. In the past four hours, the city received 14.8 mm of rain.

The weather picture was similar in the Surat district. Except Umarpada (which received 4 inches of rain) and Mahuva (2 inches), rain was sparse in all other talukas. Bardoli and Palsana received 12 mm of rain each during the day, while Mandvi and Mangrol received 13 mm and 23 mm. Choryasi and Kamrej received 17 mm and 23 mm of rain, while Olpad received the lowest, 1 mm. No casualties were reported from the city or the district till late on Saturday.

Rains have increased the water level in the upstream zone of the Ukai Dam; at present, the water level stands at 308 metres. The dam has been receiving a constant inflow of more than 72805 cubic foot per second (cusecs) from the Hathnoor dam in Maharastra, while the outflow is 900 cusecs. In other districts of south Gujarat, there were sparse rains with very little showers during the day. Dangs, Tapi, Valsad and Navsari all received scanty rainfall, and temperatures spiked in these areas.

 There were no rains in Dangs on Saturday. Kaprada and Pardi received maximum rain in the Valsad district with 25 mm and 7 mm in the past 12 hours. Valsad received 1mm of  rain; Umargam, 4 mm; and Dharampur, 3 mm. No casualties were reported in the Valsad district on Saturday.

Navsari also had a very bad day in terms of rains. Navsari taluka received highest dain of the day 53 mm, while lowest rainfall was recorded in Chikhli with 24 mm. Jalalpore received 40 mm, Vansda 32 mm and Gandevi  47 mm. Flood control reported no casualties, while there is also no forecast for next 24 hours. 

Tapi district also was on back foot for receiving rains and Vyara received highest rains (58 mm), while lowest was in Nizar (21 mm). Songadh received 37 mm of rain.
