After Pooja Chaurushi, Surat is in sporting limelight again. A fourteen-year-old city boy has been selected for an international skating competition to be held in Belgium.
Yash Narola, 14, a resident of Varachha road and class IX student at Gajera High School, has been selected for taking part in the international skating competition to be held in Belgium from July 24 to July 26. Yash is the only player from Gujarat and one among the 20 selected nationwide by the Skating Federation of India. He will have to compete with 800 players from all over the world for the title.
The competition is divided in four parts - Long Race (8000 metres) and Short Race (5000, 4000 and 2000 metres), Elimination Race and Group Race. Yash has been selected for the competition from the sixty players in a selection camp organised by the Federation in the city a month back. He was the only one to finish the test in time, based upon which he was selected for the competition.
"At present, he is concentrating on practice and is taking lessons in Mumbai and Pune. He is very serious about the game and is working very hard to improve timing and speed. We have high hopes from him and hope he will come out successfully in the competition," Bharat Narola, father of Yash, said.
"Yash was skating for the last three-four years. Till now, he used to practise with ordinary skates, but after selection, special skates have been purchased for him," Bharat, added.
Yash wants to make it big in the game, but without compromising with his studies. "I love this game and want to excel in it. I want to pursue an engineering course and so concentrate on my studies as well. Skating is my passion, but goal is engineering," he said.
