Squally winds caused by sudden low pressure led to the thunder storm which wrought large-scale destruction in four districts in Bihar's Seemanchal area claiming over 33 lives.
The squally wind developed in a particular pocket last night as the atmosphere remained unstable because of excessive heat conditions, Met offfice said here.
"It was squally wind accompanied with hailstorm, thunderstorm and incessant rains that caused the widespread destruction," Met office sources told PTI.
"The speed of the squally wind can't be observed because it lasts for little less than a minute," the sources said.
A total 33 people lost their lives and around 150 were injured in the storm that swept a large area in Kishanganj, Araria, Supaul and Purnia districts where hundreds of houses were razed, official sources said.
