The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) feels the so-called “squabble” between finance minister Pranab Mukherjee and home minister P Chidamabaram, as evident from Mukherjee's note to Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), is not an internal matter of Congress party where the two ministers can sort it out among themselves.

The BJP said it relates to loss to national exchequer, hence, involves criminality and the government needs to explain.

“This is not an internal matter of the Congress party which will end after two ministers patch up. It is a loss to exchequer and public revenue and Congress should respond to the finance minister's note and explain why 2G Spectrum was allocated in 2008 at the rates of 2001,” Arun Jaitley said.

While BJP spokesperson Nirmala Seetharaman demanded Chidamabaram's arrest for his alleged involvement in 2G Scam, Jaitley indicated that even the PM may feel the heat. “Baat nikli to door tak jayegi (If things begin, then they will go far). Both omission and commission have to be deeply investigated,” Jaitley said.

Commenting on the present crisis within Congress, Jaitley said it reflected poorly on the PM’s leadership abililities.
