Shiva kumar was screaming his innocence from the time he stepped into the court, till he was rushed into the police van after the judgment was announced.

His family and friends were present at the court during the judgment. His father Kantharaju waited in the court hall and as time passed, he was gasping and wiping away his tears.

Before the verdict was pronounced, he said, "What do we expect when there is no room for putting our words across. We hope he remains alive and something magical happens."

However, after the judgment, Kantharaju had nothing to say. "We know he is innocent and all in our village are also aware of it. He was working as a driver for eight years and there was no complaint against him. He has a wife and a family; why will he do something like this?" Cried Kantharaju. "I don't know what to do now, I have lost all my assets and now my son too," he said.

Even after the judgment, the killer's family stood by him and pleaded his innocence. His enraged wife screamed at the police when they were dragging her husband away:

"I swear on my Mangalya that he is innocent. It's Girish Babu, who was behind this murder, and my husband is innocent and has been framed. The police have also taken money."

Shivakumar pleaded with the police saying, "Please allow me to speak to the media. I am innocent and Girish Babu, supervisor of SRS Travels was behind this.

" When the police did not heed to his pleas, his wife came to his rescue and said, "I want justice and if I don't get it, I will consume poison and die in front of the same court with my child. I will not forgive the judge for not hearing my husband's cry."

About 15 of Shiva Kumar's relatives and friends from his village had come to hear the judgment.

Kantharaju's brother Shivanna cried: "It's not the time for poor people. We have been cheated very badly. We know Shivakumar is innocent and that is why we and our family have stood by him. The judgment is not just."

As the media approached, the family, especially Shiva Kumar’s mother, Kempamma, fled in an inconsolable state.
