Seventy one percent polling in Assam bypoll

Guwahati: An estimated 71 per cent polling was recorded in the by-election to two assembly constituencies
in Assam today. Election office sources here said, while 77 per cent polling was recorded in Dhekiajuli constituency in Sonitpur district, 65 per cent in S Salmara of Dhubri district.

Seven contestants are in the fray in Dhekiajuli and five in S Salmara. The bypolls were necessitated the election of S Salmara MLA AUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal and Dhekiajuli AGP MLA Joseph Toppo to Lok Sabha in May last.
