Sanjeev Bhatt seeks nodal officer for his security

Suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt has written a letter to the state home department, urging for the appointment of a nodal officer who will coordinate his security arrangement. The letter written on Sunday comes in the wake of RTI activist Nadeem Saiyed's murder on Saturday. Bhatt had also written a letter to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Saturday, requesting for foolproof security arrangements for him and his family.

In his letter dated November 6, 2011, to the additional chief secretary (home) Varesh Sinha, Bhatt has given references of this earlier correspondences to various state government agencies regarding his security. Bhatt has mentioned in his letter that despite the assurance given by the Gujarat government to the Supreme Court in May 2011, he and his family are yet to be provided with adequate and foolproof security cover.

"Despite the threat assessment reports and recommendations by the agencies working under your control, I have been provided only one PSO for my protection and one armed sentry at my residence." He has requested for providing a bulletproof car.  "One single PSO would not be able to effectively deter or neutralise a planned attack," he has said in the letter.

Bhatt also expressed that there is increasing threat to him and his family, while writing that the government has chosen to jeopardise his security cover. He has. "Modi supporters/idolators, right-wing fundamentalists and Hindu fanatics are not restricted to Ahmedabad alone. You are therefore requested to immediately designate a nodal officer to coordinate the security arrangement for myself and my family members, whenever we are required to travel out of Ahmedabad," his letter states.
