Robbers struck at four posh areas on Monday evening/night in Ahmedabad and made a mockery of the police claim that their nocturnal patrolling is deterring criminals.

Mehuliben Lakhia of Konark Karishma Tower,Vastrapur, lost Rs1.5 lakh worth of ornaments when she fell to the oldest con trick in the book. Two 35-odd-year-old males visited her and told her that they had devised a way to wash ornaments that would make them sparkle like never before.

They then asked her toheat water which they needed for their 'operation clean-up'.
She followed their instructions and when she returned, the valuables and the men had vanished!

ST employee Gautam Shah of Deepaknagar Society, Satellite returned home on Monday and found his house broken into. Thieves stole gold ornaments after breaking the grill. The value of the loot is unknown. The society's security guard told the Satellite police that he saw three suspicious males on bicycles in the vicinity and the cops are investigating the case.

In another robbery in the same area, goons broke the shutter of the shop ofRajan Patadia and stole Rs87,000 worth of computer ware. Patadia lives in Chitrakoot apartments, Sola Road.

The fourth theft took place in Dewise Society, Sola where Liladhar Sharma's house was burgled. Cash, jewellery and a camera worth Rs 1,49,000 were stolen.
