Road communication between Berhampur in Ganjam district and Daringibadi in Kandhamal district was disrupted today due to road blockade in at least three places by suspected Maoists, who have given a call to boycott Independence Day celebrations.

The road blockades were put by felling trees at Kalama, Sarapanka and Dhaugaon villages under Sorada block by cutting logs, police said.

"Though no Maoist poster was found near road blockade sites, it is suspected to be the handiwork of the rebels as they had given a boycott call," said a senior police officer.

Superintendent of Police (Ganjam) Rajesh Pilot said Independence Day was celebrated across the district without report of any untoward incident, despite the ultras call to boycott the Day.

In Berhampur, state’s Forest and Environment minister Debi Prasad Mishra hoisted the National flag.
