Due to rivulet floods in Kankara Khadi, civic officials had to evacuate 108 families from Azad nagar in Rasulabad late on Wednesday evening.

Water entered in eight out of 14 lanes in Azad nagar on Wednesday evening, after which 588 people were shifted to a nearby civic primary school. On Thursday, water level in Kankara Khadi receded a little, but people are still holed up in the primary school.

Officials of Athwa zone said that water level had receded in four lanes from the eight lanes on Thursday, but staff was not shifted in their homes as a precaution. Once the water level reaches to normal level, families will be shifted to their respective homes.

"On Wednesday, water level in Khadi was 7.5 meters due to rains and sea tides and so water entered in the lanes. At present, water level of Kankara Khadi is 5.22 meters, while its danger level is 5.10 meters. We will start shifting once water level is below 5.10 or 5 meters. All arrangements have been made by civic administration for the people, who are affected," J M Azad, executive engineer of Athwa zone, said.

Azad added that continuous monitoring of Khadi is being done to prevent any unwanted situation in the area. The area is the most low line area of the city, due to which flooding takes place frequently.
