A Manipur poll aspirant whose nomination papers were rejected was arrested for exploding a powerful grenade at his rival's house, police said today.

The person, Moirangthem Totomsana, was arrested by police commandos and 15th Assam Rifles personnel from Wangjing area in Thoubal district yesterday, the police said.

Thoubal police said Totomsana was involved in exploding of the grenade at the house of Congress candidate M Oken at Heirok on January 10 last in which two persons were injured.

Totomsana had filed his nomination papers as an independent candidate for the forthcoming January 28 assembly elections against M Oken from Heirok assembly constituency but his papers were rejected during scrutiny on January 11 last.

Totomsana admitted to the police that he had links with militant outfit United People's Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) and exploded the grenade at their behest, the police said.
