In the wake of Ratan Tata's statement that he was not comfortable with the idea of bribing a minister to start an airlines business,  BJP today said the responsible industrialist should make it clear to whom the statement is aimed at.

"Ratan Tata is a responsible industrialist. The contribution of the Tata group is immense and BJP has great respect for these contributions. His statement has created a sense of suspicion, which certainly deserves a clarification," BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy, a former minister of state for civil aviation, said.

He said it would have been desirable if Tata would make it clear and say whom the statement was aimed at.

Rudy maintained that during the NDA rule major reforms were brought in aviation sector which saw the launch of low-cost airlines.

"Today, the country is witnessing an era of low-cost airlines which has changed the face of aviation in India. BJP would have been happier had Tata clarified his statement rather than being ambiguous," he said.

The Tata Group chairman said he did not enter the airline business as he was not comfortable with the idea of bribing Rs15 crore to a minister, as had been suggested by an industrialist.
