Railway employees get medical training in Ahmedabad

The First Responder Training Programme covered aspects such as recognition of an emergency, survey of the scene, primary check of airways and breathing and circulation.

The GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) on Tuesday organised a training programme for employees of the Ahmedabad division of Western Railway. The First Responder Training Programme, which was held at the training centre at Jagatpur, covered aspects such as recognition of an emergency, survey of the scene, primary check of airways, breathing and circulation, call for emergency services and use of first aid in emergency situations, and medical, trauma and environmental emergencies.

AS Garud, divisional railway manager, Western Railway, Ahmedabad, and Subodh Satyawadi, CCO, GVK EMRI, Gujarat, inaugurated the programme. “The first responder is state-of-the-art training. I wish that all railway employees undergo this training as it will ensure safety in the long run,” Garud said. Ravi Sharma, divisional operations manager, Western Railway, Ahmedabad; Uday Shankar Jha, senior divisional commercial manager, Western Railway, Ahmedabad; Dr SS Rathaur, chief medical superintendent, Western Railway, Ahmedabad; and Dr Rakesh Khandekar, partner, Emergency Medicine Learning Centre and Hospital Relationship, GVK EMRI, Gujarat, were also present for the programme. “The citizens of Ahmedabad will respond to this training session, which will add value to the current procedure of tending to emergency situations,” Satyawadi said.
