Prominent Maoist leader of Bihar arrested in Kolkata

A prominent woman Maoist leader from Bihar was arrested from a slum area here by Bihar police and Kolkata Special Task Force (STF) personnel. 

Chameli Das was wanted in connection with at least seven cases, including the blowing up of Abeli SDO office in Kharagpur in 2008 and killing of a policeman in the same year, STF sources said today.

Chameli, 40, wife of Badri Das, had come to Kolkata for undergoing eye treatment, the sources said.

On a specific tip-off, a Bihar police team came to Kolkata and with the help of Kolkata STF picked her up from a relative's house in central Kolkata, the sources said.

Originally a resident of Vikhadi under Sangrampur police station in Muger district in Bihar, "she had been a hardcore Maoist and she is well-known in Jhajha and Jamui areas", the source said.

She will be produced in a court today for transit remand," the source said. PTI SAG MM
