Powerful IED recovered from Guwahati

A powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED), weighing two kg, was recovered here at Lalmati area today.

Following a tip off, police unearthed the powerful IED, suspected to be planted by ULFA militants for subversive activities in the run-up to the Republic day.

The local people told the police that they had noticed a youth staying in a rented house near the spot from where the IED was recovered, but he had left the house a couple of days ago.

The IED was later defused.

In another incident one hardcore ULFA militant belonging to the 28 battalion was arrested in Lakhimpur district.

Pranab Patur (26) was nabbed when he was undergoing treatment in the Lakhimpur civil hospital near Boginadi.
