Election for the next president of Congress Madhya Pradesh unit, scheduled for July 25, has been put off.

Chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Election Authority, Narendra Budania said from New Delhi that it would be wrong to say that the election had been postponed.

Budania, however, said that the election could not be held yesterday as elections for presidents of party state units all over the country were being rescheduled.

Asked when the new president of the Congress Madhya Pradesh unit would be elected, he said that no date can be specified for it at this stage.

Meanwhile, party sources said that the election may have been put off as most of the tasks which Budania had promised to do did not materialise.

They said that this included giving photo identity cards to voters and holding elections at various levels in the state.

There are a number of contenders for the party state unit post and they include the present incumbent, Suresh Pachouri.

Others in the race include senior party MLA Ajay Singh who is now the Chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Election Campaign Committee.
