Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi today slammed Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) for announcing a series of protests demanding caste-based census, saying it was only aimed at ''instigating people against the DMK government.''
''The Centre had made it clear that caste-based census will be undertaken from June 2011 and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi
had also written to me in this regard,'' he said writing in party mouthpiece ''Murasoli.''
Alleging that these protests were to instigate the very people such parties claimed to have been representing, he expressed hope that they would not fall prey to such designs.
He asserted that the DMK was not against caste-based census and only some people had imagined so and therefore were taking
to such protests.
Karunanidhi also denied reports of the government dropping the proposed Rs 600 crore Ennore-Chennai Port elevated expressway and said various works relating to it were on.
