Thousands of passengers on board metro trains and stations on the Dwarka line were stranded for over 45 minutes after the doors of a train failed to open at the Kirti Nagar station causing anxious moments for people.
Around six trains on the overcrowded Dwarka Sec-9 — Noida City Centre/Anand Vihar line got stranded at various stations for over 45 minutes as thousands of passengers waited for the trains.
The doors of a brand-new Bombardier train failed to open at the Kirti Nagar Metro station on the Line 3 (Dwarka Sec 9-Noida City Centre/Anand Vihar) causing anxious moments to hundreds of passengers on board.
DMRC officials said three-four attempts by them to open the doors proved futile but it opened after five minutes.
They said the passengers were then de-boarded from the train, which was sent to Kirti Nagar siding for inspection.
This is the second such incident in three days when the doors of a train got stuck. Doors of a Bombardier train got stuck at the Central Secretariat station on Friday.
The incident led to huge delay in services with trains being stranded at various stations and passengers getting stuck inside trains for over 45 minutes.
Huge rush and queues were seen at Rajiv Chowk and other inter-section stations with passengers seeking refund of their tickets.
The services resumed after 7pm in the evening after it was disrupted for over an hour.
Sanjay Kumar, a media professional, said there were huge queues and rush at the Rajiv Chowk station and security personnel had a tough time controlling them.
There were announcements at stations asking passengers to de-board from the trains and get refund of their tokens.
"I was at the Laxmi Nagar station from 6pm and there was no train till 6.20pm and even the train which came was at the station for over 45 minutes," Sri Vidhya, a software professional, said.
Witnesses said passengers also gheraoed train drivers at stations and queried them about the delay. The drivers had a difficult time explaining the situation to the passengers.
