The National Institute of Design (NID) has cleared its faculty, Krishnesh Mehta against sexual charges alleged by the institute's former student but pointed out that the faculty was found guilty of going beyond the academic curriculum and hence, have decided to penalize him accordingly.

Earlier a former student of NID, Saurabh Kumar had charged faculty of NID, Krishnesh Mehta of laying undue emphasis upon sex and sexual activities during his sessions in a mail that was sent to the institute's director and its faculties.

To inquire into the matter, the institute had formed a three-member committee including the registrar of the institute, Vijaya Deshmukh, Akhil Succena and Anil Sinha.

After conducting an enquiry by the committee, which included taking statements from various students and other related at NID, the committee has come up with a report, which points out that the intention of the faculty was not of any malafide intentions, but he adopted a wrong methodology of teaching.

The report said that, Mehta's methodology was deviated from the institute's specified curriculum.
As a penalty, the institute has decided to withhold the next annual appraisal of Mehta's salary.

Registrar of NID, Vijaya Deshmukh who was one of the three-member investigation committee said, "The faculty was not found guilty of having any wrong intentions. However, we have found that, the faculty went beyond the institute's academic curriculum."

She explained, "We found that the faculty was mixing workshop contents with the academic curriculum. Institute has given a warning to the faculty to stay clear of such mistakes again."

The session that Mehta used to conduct was called 'Creating creativity and innovating innovation', against which student Kumar had raised complaints.

This will not be allowed to be infused into the institute's curriculum, anymore.

Referring to the session, Deshmukh said, "We have decided that it can be conducted as a workshop and not as a part of the institute's curriculum."
