With the arrest of Irfan Ulla, the Punjab police claimed to have foiled another bid of the Pakistan-based ISI and militant organisations to revive militancy in Punjab.
A Pakistani ISI agent with maps of vital defence installations was arrested by Punjab police today from near the Indian Air Force station in Mullanpur in this district near Chandigarh.
With the arrest of Irfan Ulla, the Punjab police claimed to have foiled another bid of the Pakistan-based ISI and militant organisations to revive militancy in Punjab.
A pistol with 20 live cartridges, maps and pictures of IAF stations, airports in different parts of the country and a hand written diary in which secret information and code numbers of IAF stations were written, was recovered from him.
Mohali SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar told a press conference
here this evening that the arrested resident of Lahore was an
agent of ISI and close aide of dreaded terrorists Ranjit Singh
alias Neta, head of Khalistan Zindabad Force, and his associate Gurmeet Singh Bagga based in Germany.
"Ulla was spying IAF stations and airports and sending the secret information to his militant mentors settled abroad," the SSP said, while informing that the ISI agent had illegally entered India sometime back and since then, he had visited several parts of the country on a spying mission.
A case under different sections of Unlawful Activities Act, 1967, Indian Official Secrets Act, 1923, Foreigners Act, 1946 and the Arms Act has been registered against the Pakistani national, who is aged around 29.
Bhullar said that after doing B A., he had procured a degree in computer sciences and since 2006, he was teaching Physics, English and Mathematics in a school at Lahore.
