Over 1,000 supporters of Yeddyurappa detained in Medak

Over 1,000 supporters of Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa were detained by Andhra Pradesh police in Medak district this afternoon when they were proceeding towards Hyderabad where rebel BJP MLAs are camping.

The BJP workers led by former MLA Shankargoud Patil, who is currently chairman of Karnataka Forest Development Corporation, were proceeding in 125 vehicles when they were detained, Zaheerabad Police said.

Yeddyurappa loyalists from Bidar and Gulbarga districts were going towards a posh hotel near Shamshabad International Airport in Hyderabad, reportedly to vent their anger against 52 dissident MLAs of the party camping there for over 10 days.

"Yeddyurappa's supporters travelling in 125 vehicles on NH-9 (Mumbai-Hyderabad) were prevented at the Zaheerabad check-post by Andhra Pradesh police following which the BJP workers had a heated argument with them," police said.

Karnataka ex-MLAs Subash Tandore and R Siddaiah were among those who detained by the police.

However, later Yeddyurappa's supportes were released after they agreed to go back to their districts, police said.

According to BJP sources, Yeddyurappa's supporters were planning to confront the rebel MLAs at the hotel where they are staying in support of Reddy brothers, G Janardhan Reddy and G Karunakar Reddy, who are demanding change of leadership in Karnataka.
