According to DCB police inspector KK Patel, after getting a tip-off, he laid a trap near Anupam cinema in Khokhara, in the city's Amraiwadi area.
Detection of crime branch (DCB) sleuths cracked down heavily on bootleggers on Thursday, and reportedly seized a consignment of over 100 crates of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), worth over Rs2.50 lakh. The liquor was reportedly stocked for New Year booze parties.
According to DCB police inspector KK Patel, after getting a tip-off, he laid a trap near Anupam cinema in Khokhara, in the city's Amraiwadi area. But Hardik Jogi, the person carrying the liquor, sensed danger and tried to run away. However, before he could escape, the DCB officials nabbed him.
Patel said that Jogi was carrying liquor for New Year booze parties. The police arrested him and seized the consignment, along with the Rs3.50-lakh car in which it was being ferried.
In another incident, Patel and his team nabbed two people with 503 bottles of IMFL, between Motera village and Swagat three roads. The two were identified as Sudhir Rajkishore and Bharat Thakur. The value of the consignment is estimated to be around Rs1.60 lakh.
Conmen dupe old couple of jewellery
Jayendra Shah, a senior citizen and resident of Ruchi apartment, Judges Bungalow, lodged a complaint of cheating with Vastrapur police station on Wednesday.
According to cops, two unidentified persons posing as medical representatives entered Shah's house. They told the old couple that they can shine any jewellery with a special chemical. The couple gave the conmen their Rs1.60 lakh jewellery to make it shiny.
The duo seemingly put it into a pot and left the house asking the couple to slowly boil the pot. However, when the couple opened the pot, there was no jewellery in it.
Cash stolen form Jain Derasar
Mayur Shah, a builder by profession and a resident of RK Park, Jodhpur, on Wednesday lodged a police complaint stating that Rs1100 was stolen from Jain Derasar near Mansi circle. In his complaint with Satellite police station, Shah alleged one Parvat of stealing money from the Jain temple.
Ragging alleged at RC Technical Institute
There have been unconfirmed reports of ragging inside the RC Technical Institute on the SG Highway. According to reports, a boy was stripped and forced to dress up like a girl by some seniors.
They allegedly took him around the campus and humiliated him. The principal and rector of the institute today denied that the act took place.
They said that no such incident happened as exams have been going on and no one has the time to indulge in such things. Even the police haven't confirmed the reports as no FIR has been lodged in the matter.
