The terror threats that loomed large over Gujarat a week ago have taken a toll on the proposed Unity Tour cycle rally to be jointly held by the US and Gujarat police, which was claimed as a first of its kind event in the country.

The US police have all but pulled out their men from the much-hyped rally, fearing a ‘possible’ terror attack. The event was being seen as a part of the Vibrant Gujarat summit.

According to police officials who are coordinating the rally, only three police personnel out of the original 50 US cops will be participating in the event.
They had planned to cycle together from Ahmedabad to Karamsad, the native place of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Along with them, 50 policemen from Gujarat and some  NGO representatives were to bike their way to Karamsad.

“We are fully prepared for the event and to give the visitors a warm welcome during their stay in the city. However, we have been informed by the US officials that they can’t send their men to India because of the terror threats,” said a top local official who is coordinating the event.

In December end, investigative agencies had passed on specific information stating that around a dozen suspected terrorists had sneaked into the state. They had stated that terrorists could strike at any major event happening in Ahmedabad and/or Gandhinagar (Vibrant Gujarat summit).
