Omar Abdullah in Delhi ahead of BJP’s ekta yatra

Confrontation seems to be brewing between J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah and BJP following his attempt in seeking Central intervention to ensure that the party’s proposed ekta yatra to hoist Tricolour at Srinagar on Republic Day did not fructify, and cut no ice with the BJP leadership too.

Rejecting Abdullah’s fresh appeals, following his meeting with UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and home minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday, BJP has vowed to go ahead with its Ekta Yatra from Kolklata to Srinagar.

The state government is mulling over the possibility of preventing the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, BJP’s  youth wing, from entering Srinagar to prevent retaliation from the separatists, a source close to Omar said.

Omar held an early morning meeting with Chidambaram and reportedly apprised him of the situation in the light of strong reactions that BJP’s yatra has evoked from the separatist camp.
