NEW DELHI: Gagan Khurana, a Delhi businessman in the right side of 40s, is a shopaholic, with a fetish for all things furry. Lingerie, especially. His latest buy is a rather fancy pair, with fur handcuffs, a fur choker and fur anklets to go with it. He has bought it for Sabina, his wife and mother of his two children.

Rita Suman, 30, is a regular frequenter to lingerie shops. "What's the latest?" she inquires, as she walks into one in Delhi's Lajpat Nagar. She is shown a couple of baby dolls in fluorescent colours. "Anything else?" her eyes seek something exotic. The salesman shows her a netted teddy with a fur tail. "This is a Pussy Cat thong teddy," he says. She buys it. For a small fortune.

Unbelievable, you say. There's a quiet revolution taking place in our bedrooms. And it's spreading like wild fire.

Khurana has been married for the past 17 years. "With kids to bring up and a career to manage, life gets hectic and boring. Exotic lingerie makes the sexual experience exciting. It brings back novelty to sex," he says. Khurana likes to indulge in lingerie shopping. Sometimes even without his wife. And no, he does not feel odd about it.

Suman is a housewife, mother of a nine-month old baby. Her husband is a publisher in Old Delhi's Daryaganj area. Suman buys lingerie at least twice a month. "I like to try new things. My husband finds it arousing," she explains. "We do not have the whole house to ourselves. Since I live my with my in-laws, our room is our recreational space. And we try to make the most of it."

"Sexy lingerie breaks the monotony in sex. It is an intimate article of cloth that can get both partners more involved in the act. Soft pornography has also contributed to men and women being more open to experimentation in sex and choice of clothing," explains, Samir Parikh, consultant psychiatrist, Max Healthcare.

Exposure is another reason. "FTV and foreign magazines have changed the Indian attitude towards sex. People are increasingly getting less inhibitive about sex," reasons Hemant Gupta, director, Kunchals, a popular sleepwear and cosmetics shop in Delhi's Greater Kailash. "From leopard-print body suits, garter belts and crotch-less panties to marabou pompoms G-strings, customers are giving everything a try."
