Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials were in for shock as students of General Nursing School of VS Hospital continued their strike for the third consecutive day.

Some 150 students of the college took out a rally on Saturday to protest against the college’s demand of hostel fees for the new hostel building. While objecting to the authorities’ demand, students staged a demonstration with large banners and submitted a memorandum to AMC officials at the AMC building, Danapith.

The protestors created a ruckus at the premises and shouted slogans against mayor Asit Vora. They said they had not been informed about the additional Rs5,000 which the authorities are demanding now.

“We were not informed about the fees. Moreover, the college authorities refused to give any receipt or written letter,” said one of the students.

The protest got a boost when students’ organisation National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) extended its support to the students.

However, there were unpleasant instances of students fainting during the rally even as NSUI Ahmedabad president Vishwanathsinh Vaghela addressed the protestors. The students were taken to the casualty ward of VS Hospital with the help of NSUI members.
