The Election Commission today refused permission to hold Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's election meeting in a school ground at Kottayam in Kerala.

Singh, who will visit the poll-bound state on April nine, was scheduled to address an election meeting at M T Seminary School grounds.

EC sources said local Congress leaders had sought permission from the district collector for holding the Prime Minister's meeting in the school grounds. The collector had referred the issue to the Commission.

"As per EC guidelines no political campaign is permitted in educational institutions," the sources said.

Kerala, having 140 Assembly constituencies, will have a single day poll on April 14.
