No change in Jyoti Basu's condition

Condition of Jyoti Basu, hospitalised with pneumonia, remained unchanged today as the veteran Marxist leader remained on life support in the hospital, his personal assistant Joykeshta Ghosh said.

"The situation remains the same", Susruth Mukherjee, a doctor of the medical board formed at the private AMRI hospital, where 95-year-old Basu is admitted, told reporters.

Another medical bulletin will be issued at 11 AM. Basu's condition had turned very critical yesterday and he was put on a ventilator after he developed breathing problems.

A medical bulletin issued by the hospital last evening had said that Basu's condition had deteriorated following which he was put on a ventilator. Basu was admitted to hospital on Friday last following a pneumonia infection.
