Known for his love for the country's heritage, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar chose to visit Vaishaligarh in Vaishali district, after his Rajgir trip, where he said he would take up with the Centre the issue of development of the area as key tourist attraction.
After his four-day sojourn to Rajgir where he had held a special cabinet meeting on the Ratnagiri hills near Buddha Stupa last month, Kumar went to Vaishaligarh, 65 kms from the state capital, today where he visited the world famous Mauryan age Ashokan Pillar and saw the remains of the Raja Vishal Ka Garh at Vaishali.
Kumar also visited Kolhua Basokund the birthplace of lord Mahavir and Vishwa Shanti Stupa housing the relics of Lord Buddha and the museum and laid foundation stone for sports complex worth Rs Seven crore and rennovation of Abhishek Puskarni.
Later, he went to Chakwara village and met the farmers who were engaged in developing seeds where he relished Phulgobhi halwa (porridge of cauliflower)and bhujia with scented nenua.
Talking to reporters, he said he would take up the issue related to development of the area as +key tourist attraction with the Centre and ask for deputation of a team of aracheologists for further excavation.
Kumar said he had asked the Tirhut division commissioner SM Raju to prepare a plan for developing the areas and protection of national monuments.
I will ensure budgetary support for the development projects in the areas,+ he said.
The chief minister said his government would also help the farmers of the area engaged in processing seeds and the quality would be examined by the senior scientists from the Rajendra Agriculture University (RAU).
Our prime responsibility is to protect national monuments and country's heritages+, he said, adding the state government was buoyed with the response from foreign tourists wanting to visit the areas.
Against reports of one lakh foreign tourists coming to Bihar till last year, the figure had risen to 3.5 lakh so far this year, chief minister said.
'We have to strive hard to further increase the infrastructure in the tourist areas to ensure their enhanced inflow of tourists, particularly foreigners', Kumar said.
He said he would unveil several schemes for the areas during his stay till Monday.
