Music is a way of life for Yohan Marshall, an alumnus of Mahatma Gandhi International School (MGIS) and of AR Rehman's music school. He was part of the group that played at his alma mater on Friday.

"My classwork and homework were like Greek and Latin to me. It was extremely difficult for me to study subjects taught in school. I was more inclined towards sports and music. In the ninth grade when my parents decided to shift me to MGIS I was reluctant since I had a gang of friends in the old school. But nevertheless I completed four years of my higher studies from MGIS," Marshall said.

With pierced ears and a little pony tail, Marshall  was known to be a very quiet child. He thanks his friends and teachers in MGIS for helping him open up.

"They would say talk as it is the way to live life. And I talked and now I talk a lot (he grins!). Music here started with a school rock band project with four members. MGIS gave us an atmosphere of openness and acceptance helping us form the band in our chemistry lab, 'Xperiment 7'. This band has qualified for the finals for Campus Rock Idols competition four times," Marshall added.

For Marshall, playing live music is a way of life. An Amdavadi, Yohan was a self-taught drummer till the age of 19, when he decided to formally educate himself in music. He joined the KM Conservatory (AR Rehman's music school), is a certified sound engineer and can teach music. He completed his education by gaining a double diploma in contemporary music from Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music (SAM).

Playing with him at his alma mater were Kabeer Kathpalia, another MGIS alumnus and guitarist, Homi Rustumji student at SAM who plays bass, Harshit Maniar on keyboards, who is trained in Hindustani classical music and is also a student of SAM, Akash Sharma, MGIS alumnus who plays guitar, and finally Savera Mehta, MGIS alumnus and known guitarist of Ahmedabad.

The band plays 'adaptations' and has also composed four originals.
