Mushir Mullah, a suspect in the Nadeem Saiyed murder case, must be relieved that he has not been named as an accused in the case. The detection of crime branch (DCB), which held a press conference on Saturday to announce the arrest of Nadeem's alleged killers, has not detected Mullah's direct role in the murder. However, the DCB has not given him a clean chit either.

"For now, we don't know whether Mullah is connected with the murder or not but we are investigating the case and will probe in that direction also," said deputy commissioner of police, Himanshu Shukla, during the media briefing.

"We have arrested seven people and will investigate if they had any connection with Mushir," Shukla added.

However, Mushir is named in the complaint that was filed at Vejalpur police station after the November 5 murder of Saiyed. In an exclusive conversation with DNA recently, Mushir, who is currently in Dubai, had said that he was not involved in the crime. But the DCB is not inclined to give him a clean chit at this stage of the investigation.

The police have, however, arrested his former aide, Mohammad Sharif alias Kalu Gardan, in the case. Gardan will be produced in court on Sunday when the police will seek his custody on remand.
Mohammad Sharif earned the nickname, 'Kalu Gardan', because of his dark complexion and his reputation for hacking his victims' necks. He started his career in crime as a hooch carrier for a Juhapura-based bootlegger but became notorious after he killed a local don, Bhuriyo, a few years back.

He is an accused in more than 20 cases of loot, murder, attempt to murder and bootlegging registered at Sarkhej and Vejalpur police stations.

On November 5, Nadeem Saiyed was hacked to death in broad daylight in Juhapura. On the basis of eyewitness accounts, the DCB learnt that a gang involved in cow slaughter was behind the murder. The DCB succeeded in arresting Kalu and his gang in Naroda on Saturday.
