Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav today claimed that when he was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, he had initiated action in the foodgrains scam in the state.
"I had initiated action against 63 persons for their involvement," Yadav told reporters here.
The scam was unearthed on the basis of a complaint by SP MLA Yogesh Pratap Singh, he said adding that he had ordered a high level inquiry.
A division bench of the Allahabad HC has directed the CBI to start the inquiry into the swindle in which foodgrains for BPL card holders were diverted.
The scam, which reportedly started in 2004 during SP rule, left those covered under the Antyodaya Scheme, Jawahar Rozgar Yojana and mid-day meal scheme go hungry.
