After incidents of celebratory firing and violence involving his party workers post-election, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday asked the party ministers to ensure the party's image was not tarnished.

At the meeting held at SP headquarters here in the presence of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Mulayam asked the ministers to be image-conscious and ensure better connect with the electorate, party sources said.

Yadav also advised the ministers to ensure that their supporters remain within their limits during celebratory functions as media reports regarding involvement of SP workers in firing and other incidents could make an adverse impact on the image of the party and its government.

The people of the state had reposed their trust in the party by giving it absolute majority and that is why the party's responsibility towards the common man has increased, Yadav said.

Besides, the ministers were also directed by Yadav to ensure that promises made in party manifesto are taken care of in their respective departments and development should be on top of the agenda.

Mulayam had said at a press conference yesterday that the ministers involved in incidents creating inconvenience to people will not be tolerated and strict action would be taken against them.

A young boy was killed during celebratory firing allegedly by SP supporters after the party candidate's victory in Sambhal area.

Meanwhile, the party today expelled five party workers of JP Nagar for their alleged involvement in celebratory firing for Mahboob Ali, who was given a ministerial berth in Akhilesh's cabinet.

Those expelled for six years are: Nasir Ali, Istikhar Hussain, Noor Pahalwan, Arshad Bharti and Riyazul Hasan.
