Law and parliamentary affairs minister Ali Mohammad Sagar said the commission of inquiry will be looking into the circumstances leading to the death of 17 youth, who were killed between June 11 to July 19.
Jammu and Kashmir government today said it would refer more death cases to the commission looking into 17 killings during recent violence in the valley, if it is not satified with the ongoing magisterial probes into them.
"We will refer more cases to the commission if there is need to do so," law and parliamentary affairs minister Ali Mohammad Sagar said in the legislative assembly.
Sagar said the commission of inquiry headed by Justice (retd) Syed Bashiruddin Ahmad will be looking into the circumstances leading to the death of 17 youth, who were killed between June 11 to July 19.
He said 19 FIRs have been registered against security force personnel while magisterial inquiry has been ordered into 13 cases.
Earlier, CPI(M) state secretary and MLA Kulgam MY Tarigami called for bringing all the civilian causalities that occurred during the recent unrest under the ambit of commission of inquiry to bring forth facts before public.
He said the dead cannot be brought back but fixing responsibility on the offenders of law will certainly console the bereaved families.
Tarigami said transparent investigation will also help in earning public trust and restoring credibility of institutions.
Underlining the need to dispense with frequent curfews in downtown city, he said it had been constantly reeling under restrictions.
Tarigami said people in these areas have suffered badly heavily during the last several decades and urged for urgent measures to address the grievances of the people living there.
He said restrictions in downtown also violate religious rights of the inhabitants as Friday prayers have not been allowed for several weeks at the historic Jamia Masjid.
Tarigami was supported by Independent MLA from Langate Sheikh Abdul Rashid.
