Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, who was grievously injured in an attack yesterday, is still critical, doctors said today.

Owaisi, who is the floor leader of MIM in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, fellow MIM legislator Ahmed Balala, and another person were injured when their car was attacked by ten persons in Barkas area in the old city here.

"Owaisi, 38, had suffered injuries to left kidney, upper portion of large intestine, urinary bladder and 'left upper limb'," a bulletin issued by the medical director of the super-speciality Care Hospital, said.

He is on ventilator and other medical support system to maintain blood pressure, it said.

Owaisi needs a second surgery today for the abdominal injuries, according to doctors.

His overall condition is critical and is being monitored continuously, the bulletin added.

The MLA was shifted to the Care Hospital from Owaisi Hospital last night.

State home minister P Sabita Indra Reddy, who visited the hospital this morning, said the government would provide all required assistance for the treatment.

The investigation into the attack had been entrusted to the Central Crime Station (CCS) of police, she said.

"The investigation would look into all aspects, whether the attack was a fall-out of Owaisi's efforts to save government land from encroachments, or the result of a conspiracy as alleged by Akbaruddin Owaisi's brother and (Hyderabad) MP Asaduddin Owaisi," she said.

Several political leaders, including former chief minister K Rosaiah and former MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, visited the hospital today.
