Met forecasts spell of rain for Ahmedabad today

If the Indian Meteorological Department's forecast for Ahmedabad is right, the city will experience a few spells of rain, thundershowers or heavy rain in some areas on Sunday.

If the Indian Meteorological Department's forecast for Ahmedabad is right, the city will experience a few spells of rain, thundershowers or heavy rain in some areas on Sunday. On Saturday, under cloudy skies, Ahmedabad kept its date with light rain and drizzles.

The city received around 35.8 mm average rainfall with West Zone getting the highest, 44.67 mms, followed by South Zone.The state emergency control room official said that rain fell in 138 talukas in 24 districts out of 225 talukas in 26 districts of the state between 7am and 4pm on Saturday.

Wadhwan taluka of Surendranagar received 129 mm rainfall during the day, the highest in the state. Malia Miyana taluka of Rajkot got 124 mm and Sayla in Surendranagar 113 mm.

Sami taluka of Patan received 98 mm rains in the same time period on Saturday, followed by 97 mm each in Viramgam (Ahmedabad district) and Chotila (Rajkot). Jetpur taluka of Rajkot received 95 mm rains.

However, officials said that no rain related death was reported from any part of the state on Saturday. They also said that the regional meteorological department has forecast moderate to heavy rains at several places in the state during the next 48 hours.

The met department forecasts moderate to rather heavy rain/ thundershowers at most places in all districts of Gujarat region, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli and many places in all districts of Saurashtra, Kutch and Diu. For Ahmedabad, the met office has forecast few spells of rain/thundershowers, heavy in some areas.
