Maoists abduct block development officer in Jharkhand

Suspected Maoists today abducted a block development officer (BDO) from his office chamber in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district.

Suspected Maoists today abducted a block development officer (BDO) from his office chamber in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district.

"Prasant Layak, BDO of Dalbhumagarh in Maoist-hit Ghatsila sub-division, was taken away by some unknown gunmen. The administration and police have launched a manhunt to trace him," sub-divisional officer of Ghatsila, Sunil Kumar told PTI.

Armed with guns, the assailants came in three motorcycles and took him away at gunpoint, Kumar said.

The incident comes at a time when chief minister Shibu Soren renewed his offer of talks with Maoists.
