An angry mob pelted stones and damaged a BRTS bus on Thursday evening after another BRTS bus on the same route ran over a man near the Narol-Danilimda road earlier. The man survived the accident and is being treated at VS Hospital.
The Danilimda police registered a case of rioting and damage to public property against the mob and arrested 19 people involved in the incident.
One Mohd Shoaib Khalifa and Mohsin Saiyed were travelling with their families to the Shah Alam Dargah in the city on Thursday afternoon. They were travelling from their native Bharuch. The group’s car however broke down after they reached the city.
At Bombay Hotel on the Narol-Danilimda route, Mohsin got down from the car and proceeded to cross the road to borrow a tool from a roadside mechanic. As Mohsin was crossing the road, a speeding BRTS bus going from Narol to RTO circle ran over him and left him with severe injuries. The bus driver halted briefly but then sped off without even stopping to enquire about the injured person.
As a crowd gathered around the accident spot, the 108 emergency services were called and Mohsin was rushed to VS Hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries. Khalifa then registered a complaint of rash driving against the driver of the BRTS bus.
Meanwhile, the crowd that had gathered around the accident spot took matters into their own hands and continued to pelt stones at buses passing by the route. The angry mob threw stones first at the BRTS bus that ran Mohsin over till the driver sped off. Later, the mob continued to pelt stones at another bus passing by the route. The driver of the unrelated bus, one Shailesh Parmar, has registered a complaint of damage to public property against the mob at Danilimda police station.
Danilimda PSI SJ Goswami said, “We have registered cross complaints. We have also registered a case of rioting against the mob that was involved in the stone pelting and damage to the BRTS bus. We have already apprehended 19 people from the mob.”
