Thousands of people belonging to the Maheshwari community thronged the 'Karyakari Mandal Adhiveshan' organised by the Ahmedabad Jilla Maheshwari Sabha at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Memorial Hall in Shahibaug on Sunday.

The event is a two-day affair with inauguration and election process for the main wing, women's wing and youth wing held on the first day.

Talented kids, youth, and adults from the Maheshwari community will entertain the community with dances, songs, comedy sequences, and instrumental music. "The event is organised once every three years," said Manoj Somani, event co-ordinator.

The event which is organised for the first time in Ahmedabad was inaugurated by Governor Dr Kamla and assembly speaker Ashok Bhatt.

On the occasion, over 2,000 Maheshwaris dressed in their ethnic best were invited to be a part of the authentic grandeur and to cast their votes in the allotted ballots in order to choose their choices for the president, secretary and treasurer of the 'Akhil Bharat Varshiya Maheshwari Mahasabha'- operating at the national level.

A brief procedure was also carried out for the women's and youth wings of the association wherein individual state leaders were selected.

Jodhraj Ladha from Kolkata and Rampal Soni from Bhilwada are competing neck and neck for the position of president in the present 'Akhil Bharat Varshiya Maheshwari Mahasabha' elections.

"It was a great feeling to see people belonging to the Maheshwari community come together on a single platform and interact with each other," says Harshit Vyas, media co-ordinator.
