Maharashtra agriculture minister visits Nagaland

To get acquaintance with bamboo enterprises, Maharashtra agriculture minister Balasaheb Thorat today arrived at Dimapur on a two-day visit to Nagaland.

Accompanied by two senior forest officials of Maharashtra government, the minister today interacted with officials of Nagaland Bamboo Development Authority on various aspects of modern usages of bamboo and their potentials as enterprises.

Officials of the authority said the visiting team was shown bamboo plantation and various facets of modern bamboo usages at Common Bamboo Facility Centre at Dimapur.

The facility was set up under Nagaland Bamboo Mission to provide technical helps to entrepreneurs.

The team later arrived at Kohima in the evening and met chief minister Neiphiu Rio.

Under the Mission, Nagaland put efforts to develop Bamboo as resources as well enterprises considering the comparative advantages of the state in this sector. From birth to death, the Nagas are known to use this woody grass through ages.
