Madhya Pradesh facing staff shortage to protect forests, wildlife

Madhya Pradesh is facing shortage of ground staff in protecting its wildlife and huge forest area spread over 95,000 sq km, officials said here.
       
"We are short of around 1500 forest guards and around 300-400 forest rangers to keep a vigil in the forest area," a top official of forest department told PTI.
       
Against the sanctioned posts of 13,977 forest guards, we are short of around 1,500 people while against the sanctioned post of 1,152 forest rangers, we are short of 350- 400 such officials, he said.
       
He said that efforts were underway to fill up 900 posts of the forest guards with the help of state Professional Examination Board and rest by regularisation of the daily wagers.
       
Similarly, moves are afoot to fill up the post of forest rangers by promoting deputy forest rangers, he said.
