The focus has shifted from Puttaparthi to the small village of Doddamallur which lies between Channapatna and Maddur around 90km from Bangalore. This was the village identified by Sathya Sai Baba as the place where his next incarnation Prema Sai Baba will be born.

This sleepy hamlet’s claim to fame until then was that Lord Rama had prayed at the Shri Ambegalu Krishna temple there, before he set out for Lanka to fight Ravana. But with the reincarnation story doing rounds, that has become the new focus of interest.

It hasn’t been without controversy either, as another small village called Gunaparthi near Mandya laid claim to being the site for the reincarnation. But now it’s ‘official’ that it will be Doddamallur, and the villagers are in a frenzy as they wait for God to be born in their village.

Prema Sai Baba, according to the discourses given by Sathya Sai Baba, would be the third and  last incarnation of Sai Baba, the first being Shirdi Sai Baba. Baba had said during a discourse that his reincarnation would appear at a village near the Shri Ambegalu Krishna temple. This has been documented in a book written by his devotee, Kannamma.

It’s not clear, though, how Prema Sai’s parents will be identified. Five years ago, a team had been dispatched from Puttaparthi to look for a lady by the name of Kasthuri, who the Baba had said  would be the mother of Prema Sai.

But no such woman was found. However at that time they were sent back by the villagers stating that there was no such happening.

Then, just two months back, the villagers were taken aback to see a large contingent of 700 people from Puttaparthi, dispatched by Baba himself.

They headed straight to the Shri Ambegalu Krishna temple and offered ‘Laksharchana’ and ‘Kumkumarchana’ pujas for nearly 10 hours.

The chairman of the temple trust, Venu, says that ever since the Baba’s death, there has been a steady stream of people from Puttaparthi arriving in the village.

When Venu was reminded that as per the prophecy, Prema Sai would only be born in 2024, he said that there is no clarity on that.

“What we were given to understand is that there is no date specified for the birth of Prema Sai and so it could happen anytime in the near future.

We are on the lookout for the possible parents of Prema Sai. The people from Puttaparthi have told us  to inform them if we find something strange or a miracle which is bound to happen around the Shri Ambegala Krishna temple.”
