The profession of law today is regarded as a creator of problems rather than a provider of solutions, noted advocate Ram Jethmalani said here.

"In ancient times, only three professions were considered noble -- that of a priest, a doctor and a lawyer.

Unfortunately, today the profession of law has hit rock bottom of social acceptance," the BJP MP said addressing a colloquium on 'Challenges of Evolution of Criminal Law' held at the Amity University in Noida.

The profession now has been regarded as a creator of problems rather than the one that provides solution to troubles, he said, adding it is, however, not possible for a country to become successful without lawyers.

The main problems faced by criminal law, Jethmalani felt, were corruption and terrorism.

He also expressed concern over siphoning off money by Indians and sending it to foreign banks.
